Dina Melchiorre

Executive Director, Delaware Futures

Melchiorre was the first person in her family to earn a college degree. Now, she’s helping others do the same through her work at Delaware Futures. The nonprofit works to help low-income children—even those not always considered “college ready”—graduate high school and move on to college.

“[We] help them realize their potential,” she says. Melchiorre holds a degree and professional experience in communications. When she started at a nonprofit working with students in Pennsylvania, she knew this was the path for her.

“I fell in love working with kids,” she says. Now, she’s been with Delaware Futures for three years (and nonprofit work for more than 20) and is living her passion. She continues to follow the advice of a former boss and mentor who told her to “to build a great team [and] surround yourself with smart, passionate people. Think about who you want on your team and then find the best role where each person and contribute while continuing to grow,” she says.

Her advice to those who want to get involved in nonprofit work is to find what you’re passionate about and use your talents to achieve goals. She says to follow a simple mantra: “Let me be of service.”
