Back to Basics Learning Dynamics, a Wilmington-based educational services company, provides one-on-one tutoring and professional development for teachers and administrators, but the company pivoted with the times when COVID-19 took hold. “We took a major hit when schools shut,” Juli Bennett says.

But she had online, at-home learning technology to ride out today’s new normal in education. From March through May, Bennett’s company, which she runs with her husband Scott, ran everything from SAT prep sessions to parent workshops on online schooling organization. Back to Basics language tutors even translated COVID-19 awareness materials into Spanish and Creole for non-English-speaking Delawareans, and they did it all for free.

“Our goal was to help everyone get through the COVID transition,” Bennett says. “We didn’t worry about our own bottom line.” Now, Back to Basics is almost fully recovered and running at top speed. “We are dedicated to education,” she says. “Our mission remains unchanged.”
