As we approach the holiday season and our calendars fill up with shopping trips, family gatherings, holiday parties and more, it can be hard to keep up with school schedules. If your child attends a public school in Delaware, bookmark this schedule of important dates for the 2024-2025 school year.
Here’s your ultimate guide to holiday schedules at public schools in Delaware.
Election Day & Veterans Day
All Delaware public schools will be closed on November 5 for Election Day and on November 11 for Veterans Day.
Thanksgiving
All Delaware public schools will be closed November 27-29 for Thanksgiving. Many school districts use the week of Thanksgiving for parent-teacher conferences and professional development days, so school isn’t in session for the full week. Students at Indian River, NCC Vo-Tech, Polytech, Seaford, Sussex Tech and Woodbridge schools have regular class days on November 25-26.
Students at the following districts are also off on November 25-26:

All Delaware charter schools will close for Thanksgiving Day, November 28, and the following Friday. The majority of charter schools are also off for the entire week, starting on Monday, November 25. Students at Freire and Odyssey will have school on Monday, and Thomas Edison Charter will have regular school days on Monday and Tuesday. Early College High School at DSU will remain open Monday-Wednesday, and close Thursday for a four-day weekend.
Winter Holidays
For winter break, all Delaware public schools will be off from December 23 to January 1.

The majority of Delaware Charter Schools also observe winter break from December 23-January 3. Early College High School at DSU will start winter break on December 19, and Charter School of Wilmington begins its break on December 20. At the end of winter break, some charters including Freire, Sussex Academy of Arts and Thomas Edison Charter, return to school on January 2.
Academia Antonia Alonso, Academy of Dover, Charter School of Wilmington and East Side Charter will remain on winter break through January 6.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
All Delaware public and charter schools will be closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 20. The following schools also don’t have school the Friday preceding the holiday:

Spring Break
All Delaware public schools celebrate the spring break holiday in the same week. From April 18-25, all of the First State’s public schools will be closed. Colonial schools will also be closed on April 17.
Most Delaware Charter Schools also observe Spring Break on April 18-25, but Early College High School at DSU has an early Spring Break on March 3-7, and also closes on April 18 and 21 for a long weekend.
Memorial Day
Memorial Day is Monday, May 26. All Delaware public schools will be closed to celebrate the holiday. The following school districts will also be closed the Friday preceding Memorial Day.
