Readers have voted Newark newcomer Grain Craft Bar + Kitchen a winner in several Best of Delaware categories, including best appetizers, bar, brunch, happy hour, late-night menu and new restaurant. The restaurant, barely a year old, is the brainchild of two UD alumni, Lee Mikles and Jim O’Donoghue.
Mikles says he and his partner are “over the moon” about winning in multiple categories. “For us to come into this with little restaurant experience and earn the most prestigious awards out there in our first year is a little overwhelming,” he says.
Mikles says their goal when opening was to be voted Delaware Today’s Best New Restaurant. “Now, to be in the company of so many other star restaurateurs, including Xavier Teixido (Harry’s Hospitality Group) and Dan Butler (Piccolina Toscana, Tonic and others) that we have idolized, is really special. We still don’t feel like we can say that we are part of that special club yet, but we will continue to strive to make the awesome guest experience that earned us these wins,” he says.
