Rick Porter’s 2011 Horse of the Year Havre de Grace Nets $10 Million

Though an injury ended this horse’s racing career, a Florida breeder ponied up quite the sum for the Fox Hill Farm thoroughbred.

In 2008 Rick Porter, a Wilmington
auto dealer and thoroughbred
owner, paid $380,000 for a pretty
bay filly he named Havre de Grace. She
earned her oats, winning $2.6 million
in purses on her way to becoming 2011
Horse of the Year. An injury ended
Havre de Grace’s racing career, but she’s
still a winner. In November 2012 bidding
galloped to $10 million when she
was sold at auction to a Florida breeder,
bringing Porter’s Fox Hill Farm a sizzling
3,216 percent return.
