A familiar name in Delaware just received a high honor in the restaurant industry.

Scott Kammerer, president of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware-based SoDel Concepts, was recently named to Nation’s Restaurant News’ 2020 list of the most influential leaders in the restaurant industry, the company announced on March 4.

There are more than 660,000 restaurants in the United States. Only 95 CEOs were selected for the list, according to a news release.

Kammerer is among names like celebrity restaurateurs including Jon Taffer, who is best known for the TV show Bar Rescue. The list also features Cameron Mitchell, CEO of Cameron Mitchell Restaurants and serial restaurateur Sam Fox of Fox Restaurant Concepts.

“I am humbled to be recognized on the same list as so many legendary restauranteurs in the U.S.,” Kammerer said in a news release. “I admire all of them, and many have been an inspiration. They are not only talented and creative businesspeople, but many are also industry advocates and dedicated philanthropists.”

Kammerer started his career in the Delaware hospitality industry in 1992 as a dishwasher in Rehoboth Beach. By 1996, he was the general manager of a seafood restaurant. He is now president of SoDel Concepts, which has 12 restaurants in Sussex County.

Kammerer is a past recipient of the Delaware Restaurant Association’s Cornerstone Award and the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce’s Marvin S. Gilman Superstars in Business Award. He’s currently chairman of the Delaware Restaurant Association, according to a news release.

“I will continue to focus on our three main principles: creating beautiful, simple food, developing the talented people with whom I have the honor to work, and making the world a better place,” Kammerer said.
