Greenville Childhood Sweethearts Tied the Knot During the Pandemic

The pandemic compelled Shelby Suddard and Michael Donnelly of Greenville to postpone their celebration, but when the time came, the sun shined on their day.

Shelby Suddard and Michael Donnelly of Greenville met in their childhood neighborhood, where they would run and play together. “Well, I was running, and Shelby was chasing me,” Michael teases. “I guess I didn’t run fast enough.”

They shared their “first innocent kiss” on the school bus a few years later, a pastime they’d revisit as adults after years of being friends.

The two were set to wed at Haskell’s Farm in Chadds Ford on May 16 of this year—a sailcloth tent and rustic farm tables would lend a bohemian vibe, Shelby says—but the pandemic postponed their 130-guest celebration until August.

“It rained all morning, but when it was time for the wedding, almost on cue, the sky cleared and the sun peeked out,” Michael says. “COVID has put a damper on 2020, but looking around and seeing all of our friends and family there to support us, enjoying themselves—there was finally a sense of normalcy. And it was beautiful.”
