John Price, Men’s Buyers Assistant and Charlie Groom, Men’s Buyer, South Moon Under, Rehoboth Beach

“We’ve done a lot with purple and lavender this year and also greens—brighter green, not lime green. We always do well with reds and golds and things.”

Original jewelry makes the Rehoboth Art League—and you—shine.

If you live in Rehoboth Beach, the secret is out. If you don’t, we’re spilling.

Photograph by Jared CastaldiOne of the best places to find handmade jewelry by local artists is the Members Sales Gallery at the Rehoboth Art League (12 Dodds Lane, Henlopen Acres, 227-8408). The shelves are loaded with artful creations because the league is loaded with artist members—840 of them. That’s good news for the savvy consumer.

“In April, artists exchange their artwork from the 2010 season with brand new work for a brand new year,” says gallery manager Nick Serratore. That usually means well-priced items need to move.

Photograph by Jared CastaldiShiny and new this season is beautiful handcrafted jewelry by Meg Fillmore, Susan Schulz and Arden Bardol.

The gallery also offers fine art and crafts, paintings, pottery and sculpture. One-of-a-kind items are reasonably priced, and purchases support local artists. This month RAL also is offering “Young at Art,” a juried exhibit that features the works of local children.

The league’s gallery shop is a shopper’s paradise, says Serratore. “Fine work just fills the gallery.” —Maria Hess

This salon makes going green new again.

As the first eco-friendly salon in Delaware, Bliss Elements salon and spa (2400 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, 543-5469) prides itself on its head-to-toe, serenely green look. Start with recycled wooden cabinets, VOC-free wall paint, environmentally friendly lighting, Energy Star-rated appliances and computers, and paperless business practices.

“Even the drinks presented to customers are only served in glass cups, never paper,” says owner Sherell Flagg.

Then there’s the salon’s own Pure Bliss line of natural and organic hair products. Natural ingredients help replenish, moisturize and maintain the gorgeous locks the Bliss team creates.

Still wondering if the salon is truly green? Consider this: Even the window stickers that say Bliss Elements are made from non-harmful, non-toxic chemicals.

Enjoying the salon’s environmental ethic rewards not only your soul, but also your wallet. Return empty bottles of Pure Bliss products to receive a discount on your next service. If you became a regular, it would only be natural. —Rebecca Kasman
