Style Spy: Summer Fashion That Travels Well

Wrinkle-free, no fuss fabrics make life easy.

For most of us, packing is our least favorite part of traveling. After you cram everything into your suitcase, it’s going to come out wrinkled. Or maybe not. When traveling this summer for business or leisure, avoid having to track down an iron or steamer from the hotel concierge and instead, pack these wrinkle-free garments.

Menswear

For men’s shirts, make sure your first stop is Wright & Simon in Wilmington. The menswear store carries a large selection of high-quality, wrinkle-free shirts. The Forsyth of Canada line ($70-$75 each) features sport shirts in twill, plaid, check, paisley and other prints made of a special two-ply yarn dyed and woven. (Wright & Simon, 911 N. Market St., Wilmington, 658-7345)

A wrinkled pair of slacks can ruin any outfit. Come prepared with Bobby Jones’ flat-front tech pants, which feature a soft drape fabric with mechanical stretch for comfort and freedom of movement. They come in four colors, but Carltons Men’s & Women’s Apparel has khaki in stock ($125). (Carltons Men’s & Women’s Apparel, 31 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach, 227-7990)

Women’s clothing

Lauren by Ralph Lauren offers a line of lightweight, long-sleeve, wrinkle-resistant cotton shirts ($69.95) in white, pinstripe and other patterns. They’re a great foundation piece for any business casual travel ensemble. (Macy’s, Christiana Mall, Concord Mall and Dover Mall)

Cabela’s has the outdoor activewear market cornered, and its Care-Free Cotton Chinos ($49.99) are no exception. Not only are they wrinkle-free—they’re stain resistant, too. (Cabela’s, Christiana Mall, Newark)

J. Jill’s Wearever Collection features shirts, jackets and dresses in travel-friendly fabrics. The Wearever Pintucked Tank Dress ($89) in solid deep blue or black is a travel must-have that can be layered, as well as dressed up or down. (J. Jill, Christiana Mall)

Must Have

ERIC JAVITS SQUISHEE HANDBAG

Not all baggage is bad, especially when it’s a handbag. For the summer, we favor the signature Eric Javits 23796 Squishee Clip II ($390). The lightweight tote has a classic straw pattern, but is made of material that easily packs away and springs back to its original shape. The durable bag is perfect for everyday use, travel and day trips to the beach. It’s available in natural, navy stripe, antique, black and sulfate-black at Bag & Baggage. (4001 Kennett Pike, No. 132, Greenville, (800) 835-2247, www.bag-baggage.com)
