Summer 2013 Beach Dining Guide: Healthy Fare

As its name implies, Nectar in downtown Lewes focuses on fresh juices, yet it goes beyond beverages. Start your day with a casserole of sautéed spinach, garlic and cherry tomatoes topped with eggs, coarse sea salt and Parmesan, or with brioche French toast with pecans and butter pecan ice cream. Burgers are made with ground bison mixed with blue cheese and topped with blue cheese crumbles. Salads might include a tumble of grilled asparagus, fresh corn, cherry tomatoes and feta in a nest of quinoa. Owner Sarah McKeown makes some dressings using fresh fruit, including apples. “People are on vacation, and they want to splurge,” she says.

Another juicy operation is marking its first full season in Ocean View. Juicebox is the brainchild of Lisa Daisey and Deborah Littleton. “We do fresh organic juices, all-fruit smoothies and we have a full coffee bar with espressos, lattes and all that good stuff,” Daisey says. The shop also sells sandwiches, wraps, salads and pastries. (616-1025, Facebook.com/thejuiceboxbethany)

Fresh fruit is part of the offerings at SnoYo Self Serve Frozen Yogurt at the Village of Five Points in Lewes. Head to the yogurt bar, which features 14 flavors, then move down the line of toppings. “We have every kind of candy bar you can think of,” says owner Michael Friedhaber.
