Last June, Lewes-area residents were eagerly awaiting the opening of the Rose & Crown. Once a fixture at the other end of Second Street, the old Rose & Crown gave way to Jerry’s Seafood. The new Rose & Crown is in the Hotel Rodney. Jay Caputo of Espuma fame is behind the recent incarnation. With prices that rarely top $20, the menu has featured such gastropub goodies as fried pickles, shepherd’s pie and the ever-popular fish-and-chips. But you’ll also find specials that leverage Caputo’s fanciful streak. (827-4475, roseandcrownlewes.com)
Over on the Forgotten Mile, Jim Bauerle of Dewey Beach Enterprises bought the old Captain’s Table, then installed chef Jason Dietterick in the kitchen. Now it’s the Table and Taproom, a gastropub with farm-to-table fare. The new menu features composed plates—the starch and vegetable are selected to highlight the protein—and lots of craft brew in tap. (227-6203, captainstablerehoboth.com)
