Summer is such a joyful time of year. We look forward to entertaining friends and family at backyard barbecues and pool parties. We open our curtains and blinds to let the sunshine in, and everything outside buzzes with new life from the spring. Here are a few tips to make your home look as great as you feel this time of year. These five design ideas are the perfect way to give your home a little facelift without breaking the bank on a full redesign.

1. Don’t be Afraid to Get Colorful

Summer is the perfect time to incorporate bold color into your home, whether it’s a small update like a bright new coffee table book or an adventurous change with a fresh coat of paint. We love the idea of re-painting your front door in a bold new color or adding a contrast trim to an otherwise monochromatic room inside your home. Either way, we are loving all the color this season!

2. Put Time Into Crafting the Perfect Patio

It is officially time to brush off or completely update your outdoor furniture to entertain for the season. We love incorporating teak dining sets on patio spaces or screened in-porches for outdoor dining and entertaining as they are timeless and super durable against the elements. Don’t forget poolside loungers for sun-soaked days and super-chic umbrellas when you need a little shade. Already have outdoor furniture that just needs a little update? Consider swapping out your cushions or having pieces re-finished for a completely new look and feel. Lastly, we love an outdoor fireplace, but if it’s not in your renovation plans or budget, check out a fire pit like a Solo Stove for summer-time s’mores.

3. Start at the Bottom

Natural fiber rugs are an amazing way to update your home for the warmer weather season underfoot. Swapping out rugs, specifically wool rugs, to natural fibers like jute, sisal or seagrass instantly adds a touch of summer.

4. Let the Light Shine in

We are firm believers that lighting can totally transform a space, and updating the lighting within your home for the summer months doesn’t have to break the bank. Consider swapping out your existing lamp shades with rattan shades for a whole new look and feel. Wanting to light the night while outdoor entertaining? We can’t get enough of these rechargeable outdoor lamps that are perfect for dinner parties.

5. Summer Scents

We love to use all five of our senses when designing a space, and scent is one that should never be overlooked. Sandalwood, citrus, coconut or even crisp cotton scents are perfect for creating those summertime vibes. You can incorporate these scents with candles, hand soaps or diffusers.
