Summer is such a joyful time of year. We look forward to entertaining friends and family at backyard barbecues and pool parties. We open our curtains and blinds to let the sunshine in, and everything outside buzzes with new life from the spring. Here are a few tips to make your home look as great as you feel this time of year. These five design ideas are the perfect way to give your home a little facelift without breaking the bank on a full redesign.

1. Swap out Your Textiles

Winter months conjure up mental images of heavy blankets in front of the fire. According to Kelley Gable, it’s time to put those in storage and swap out your textiles throughout your home for lightweight cotton or linen throw blankets, softer floral-inspired pillows and lightweight bedding.

2. Bring the Outside in

“One of our favorite ways to transition our clients’ homes for the summer months is to bring in fresh, seasonal greenery throughout their space,” says Gable. “And with refreshed greenery comes beautiful summer-inspired vases, planters and vessels that can drastically change the space! We especially love basket planters or rattan-based vases in the summer months.”

3. Give Your Coffee Table a Refresh

Kelley Gable and the team at Gable Interiors love swapping out coffee table decor in the summer months.

“Some of their favorite ways to do that are to include coffee table books that lend themselves to seasonally appropriate activities or memories,” explains Gable. “Think coastal-inspired, beach-themed, gardening-themed or anything travel-related! Additionally, we love including shell-inspired decor and objects, which are very trendy right now!”

4. Create a Summer Tablescape

Summer months often call for entertaining friends and family. “Why not liven up your tablescape to reflect the change in season?” Gable says. “We can’t get enough of colorful glassware and patterned table linens against woven placemats for a perfectly designed summer soiree.”

5. Create the Ultimate Backyard Space

“We would be remiss not to mention refreshing outdoor furnishings and decor as we spend so much of the summer months outdoors,” Gable says. She emphasizes that, when it comes to giving your outdoor setup a summer refresh, curating the space is far more important than just buying new furniture.

“You want to section your space off into dining versus lounging/seating to properly zone your back porch or patio for entertaining and enjoying. That way, you can appropriately plan and decide if you have enough space for a large-scale dining table or are in need of a smaller high-top table for dining while also accommodating an outdoor sofa or larger sectional for lounging/seating. Once you start to curate and plan the space, purchasing your new outdoor furniture will come with ease!”
