It’s not unusual for Tiffany Dawson and Amber Hankins to be interviewing celebrities at New York Fashion Week one minute, appearing on a talk show on Bravo the next, then heading to a party in The Hamptons.
This mother-daughter team lives a Hollywood lifestyle from the comforts of the First State. Dawson lives in Smyrna. Her daughter lives in New Castle.
“We’re having fun living,” Dawson says. “We like the quiet lifestyle of Delaware and we like the fast pace in New York. The way we see it, it doesn’t matter where we live. We’ll find the fun or the fun will find us.”
The ladies post photos of their self-described “glamtastic” life on their blog, ultimateglam.com. They also sell their now famous shoes, as well as custom jewelry and other stylish stuff, from their online boutique, Glam-Luxe.com.
Dawson’s work as a background vocalist put her in touch with the likes of Patti LaBelle and Denise Williams. Then a plug from “The View’s” Sherri Shepherd about their custom wedding shoes helped them to their current fame.
“When Sherri Shepherd showed our shoes and said our name—it blew up,” Dawson says. “I had to hire people and train them the next day. We were also invited to appear on the show. We were instant celebrities.”
That allowed them to pick up Fortune 500 companies like Starbucks as sponsors. This month, Dawson and Hankins are scheduled to interview the cast of truTV’s “Impractical Jokers,” and attend New York Fashion Week. Who knows where they’ll turn up next?
“It’s so beyond shoes anymore,” says Dawson. “People think this mother-daughter team is pretty cool.”
