Since opening its doors in 1963, Bath, Kitchen and Tile Center (BKT) has stayed true to its roots, even surviving the economic recession in 2009 that put several companies out of business. The third-generation family-owned business was founded by Jack and Pauline Campbell; their sons Steve, Bob and John later became involved and helped expand it. Bob’s children, Richard and Charlene, are also involved, and their youngest son Keith joins the team this year. As it celebrates 55 years, the company reveals a few of the secrets that have made it so successful.

1. It’s a one-stop shop

BKT started out as a go-to spot for builders in the area, but soon also became a resource for homeowners looking to remodel. When it comes to beautiful kitchens and bathrooms, BKT provides everything needed from a project’s early design stages through completion.

2. It remains true to its roots

BKT never felt compelled to become a jack-of-all-trades. While its product offerings and showroom displays continuously evolve and rotate, the company remains committed to its specialty: producing beautifully designed kitchens and bathrooms.

3. It has adapted to the changing market

The way people shop has changed dramatically even over the past five years. Since clients are increasingly seeking ideas online, the designers at BKT encourage them to share all the inspiration they’ve gathered from Pinterest, Instagram and home-design websites. That kind of collaboration, especially in such a fast-paced industry, is crucial to the company’s success. BKT also strives to maintain fresh in-house inspiration—keep an eye out for a remodeled Wilmington showroom within the next 12–18 months!

4. It stays up on the latest trends

BKT designers attend The Kitchen & Bath Industry Show every year, and also take classes to stay up on all the latest home trends and technologies. Popular 2018 trends include comfortable-yet-polished bathrooms resembling spa-like retreats, as well as durable quartz countertops. (Need a countertop that’s perfectly suited to your space? BKT’s on-staff fabricators can design and install it.)
