What causes dyspareunia?
Dyspareunia is often common in post-menopausal women. As women age, their ability to produce estrogen from their ovaries progressively diminishes. This decrease in production has a direct effect on vaginal health, leading to painful intercourse.

For many years, the mainstay of therapy was the use of hormone replacement medications such as estrogen tablets or creams. Mona Lisa Touch came to the U.S. after numerous years of study in Europe. The concept of the therapy is the use of a fractionated CO2 laser, which when used properly, will cause injury to layers of tissue below the surface. When the body is injured, a self-healing process occurs, thus, the body repairs itself by promoting revitalization of collagen, stroma and neo-vascularization. In essence, the tissue once injured becomes healthier and renewed. In the vagina, this translates to improved function and less discomfort.
Is there any pain with Mona Lisa Touch?
The therapy is offered in the office and is essentially painless. Initially, it requires three treatments in the first year, with an additional single treatment yearly thereafter.
