Figure 8 Barn: A Distinctive Event Space in Northern Delaware

As you drive up to the historic Figure 8 Barn in Northern Delaware, you’ll notice the tranquility of Bellevue State Park, surrounded by nature. Once a part of the famed Dupont family’s Bellevue estate, the barn is now a unique event space, known for its distinctive hourglass shape and rustic charm. Surrounded by nature, Figure 8 Barn offers an authentic country chic experience for your next event, right in the suburbs of Wilmington.

The History of Figure 8 Barn

The Figure 8 Barn has a storied past. In 1855, a wealthy Delaware wool merchant named Hanson Robinson built a gothic revival castle on a 328-acre estate with striking views of the Delaware River. The famed Dupont family later purchased and altered the original building, transforming it into a replica of James Madison’s Montpellier, which was William Dupont Jr.’s childhood home. The Duponts renamed the home Bellevue, French for “beautiful view”, and built several structures on the property, including the Figure 8 Barn. The state of Delaware purchased the estate in 1976, and it is now Bellevue State Park.

The Duponts originally built the barn as a horse training facility for the family, but now hosts stylish rustic weddings, large-scale festivals, and smaller parties and events. The delightful space, ringed by windows, features exposed beams, stone walls, high eaves, and plenty of historic Delaware charm. There’s room to transform the barn into the wedding of your dreams or an ample conference space. The possibilities are endless.

Figure 8 Barn can host weddings, festivals, trade shows, conferences, parties, reunions, and celebrations of any size. The barn contains 32,000 square feet and can accommodate up to 3,000 people, but the space is flexible for smaller events, offering an authentic rustic barn experience with modern amenities. The building also has large bay doors to allow easy access for oversized equipment and trade show displays and a long hallway, which is a blank canvas for decorations featuring your event theme. The barn features a raised dance floor and stage and bathrooms on site.

If an outdoor event is what you need, Figure 8 Barn is the place for you as well. Whether you need outdoor space to complement your event or you want to hold your event outdoors, this space can work for you. The large size of the venue makes it easy to plan for contingencies, rain, or shine.

The Hunter Barn for More Intimate Events

If a smaller venue suits your needs, the Hunter Barn is a smaller barn attached to the Figure 8 Barn and is ideal for smaller weddings, parties, and events. The Hunter Barn can accommodate 200 people inside and 250 people outside, offering a more intimate atmosphere for your get-together.

The barn is easily accessible from I-95. Centrally located, it is only a 30-minute drive from Philadelphia and a two-hour train ride from New York City and Washington, D.C.
