Flower Power

If you haven’t made it to Longwood Gardens yet for its annual Orchid Extravaganza, hurry—this is the final weekend. Every year Longwood transforms its famous Conservatory into a wonderland dripping with beautiful flowers. This weekend provides the bonus of Longwood’s International Orchid Show and Sale March 25-27. Dealers from around the world will show unique displays of common and rare varieties. Orchids, each uniquely adapted to a particular host plant, have fascinated horticulturalists since time immemorial. Some are so rare, they’re confined to environments of only a few square feet. It’s no wonder they’re so captivating. See and learn more this weekend, before the Conservatory is transformed yet again. For more, call (610) 388-5403, or visit longwoodgardens.org/OrchidExtravaganza.

The Play’s the Thing
Play lovers, this is a great weekend for you. On March 26, the Delaware Theatre Association will present its annual DTAFest 2011. Groups from Able Arts Inc., Association Community Talents of the Everett Theatre, Chapel Street Players, Foot Light Productions, Reedy Point Players and Wilmington Drama League will perform a one-act play of their choice. The winner will go on to a competition of the eastern State Theater Association in Pottstown, Pa., April 15-17. Saturday’s event begins at 1 p.m. at The Tatnall School in Wilmington. A $20 ticket gets all-day admission for adults. For more, see dtafest.org. And don’t be late—no one will be allowed into the theater after the acting has begun.
