14 Things to Do at the Beach This Weekend

Here’s what’s happening May 25 through June 4 (and beyond).

 

There are so many things to do this weekend that you might need to flip a coin to decide. Or, pick your activity by hobby. Foodies, for instance are in luck: Coastal Delaware Restaurant Week starts on Sunday, June 4, which is also the date of the annual Picnic in the Park in Lewes. Fitness buffs, meanwhile, may want to partake in a Dewey Beach competition.

Milton

Milton Arts Guild Water Exhibit

What: 28 artists contributed work in this juried exhibit.
When: Through June 17, Wednesday–Saturday, 11 a.m.–3 p.m.

Lewes

Arts & Crafts

What: Members of the Dewey Artist Collaborative will offer their work for sale while Dewey Beer Company and the Crooked Hammock unveil their collaborative “craft,” a beer called Kiwi Gose.
When: Thursday, June 1, 6–10 p.m.
Where: The Crooked Hammock


Third Annual Beebe Beach Bash

What: One of the biggest parties of the summer takes place on a docked ferry boat. Boogie down to the music of The Fabulous Greaseband. $300 for VIP; $125 for general.
When: Saturday, June 3, beginning at 6 p.m. for VIP boarding and 7:30 p.m. for general boarding.
Where: Cape May-Lewes Ferry Terminal


Picnic in the Park

What: Lewes restaurants team up with Dogfish Head Craft Brewery to offer music, libations, food and children’s games. Adult tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Children’s tickets (ages 3–12) are $5.
When: Sunday, June 4, noon–3 p.m.

Rehoboth Beach

Sonic Archeology Tasting

What: Dogfish Head debuts a new cocktail at the official grand opening of its new brewpub, built from the ground up next to the old structure. Inspired by a Prohibition-era cocktail, Sonic Archeology contains Dogfish Head’s new whiskey, rum and apple brandy, along with lime and pomegranate juices.
When: Friday, June 2, 5–11:30 p.m.; Richard Lloyd and the Snails take the new stage at 10 p.m.

Vickie Shaw

What: Southern comedian Vickie Shaw, who’s appeared on Comedy Central and frequently headlines Olivia Cruises, brings her self-deprecating wit to Rehoboth.
When: Friday, June 2, at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tickets are $25.

Book signing: “Chicken Soup for the Soul: Military Families”

What: Author Laura B. Stevens will sign copies of this book in the “Chicken Soup” series, which includes her essay.

Concerts by the Sea

What: The Rehoboth Concert Band performs a free concert in a garden setting with a picnic to follow.

Dewey Beach

Dewey Beach Championship 2017: Starboard Summer Slam

What: Hosted by CrossFit Wheelhouse and CrossFit Riverfront, the event showcases four-person teams, who compete to raise money for the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation. The nonprofit supports the fight against childhood cancer. 
When: Saturday, June 3, 7 a.m.–3 p.m.

Rockin’ the Cucina

What: To kick off Coastal Delaware Restaurant Week, Paul Cullen is bringing his blend of Italian cuisine and acoustic music to Dewey. For this event, which features five courses, he will team up with Chef Jeff Michaud. Tickets are $75 per person.
When: Sunday, June 4, 5–8 p.m.

Bethany Beach

13th Annual Bethany Beach Seaside Craft Show

What: This popular event features a diverse amount of crafts and artwork, including fiber, leather, glass, jewelry, metal, pottery, painting, photography, wood and wearable art.
When: Saturday, June 3, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Where: Downtown Bethany Beach


Ocean View Historical Complex Tours

What: In just six years, the Ocean View Historical Society has assembled an impressive collection of structures in a village-like setting that reveals the town’s heritage. (At one time, you could see the ocean from a second story.) There is even a replica of the chicken house that influenced the economy in Sussex County.
When: Wednesdays, 1–4 p.m., June 7–Aug. 30

Fenwick Island

Over Time debuts at Harpoon Hanna’s

What: The classic rock band, led by retired high school band director Mark Marvel, tours Southern Delaware and Ocean City, Md. This is the band’s first gig at this venue.
When: Friday, June 2, 9 p.m.–1 a.m.
Where: Harpoon Hanna’s Restaurant


DiscoverSea Shipwreck Museum

What: Opened in 1995 by diver Dale Clifton, this hidden gem above Sea Shell City is a treasure trove of information and artifacts, most of which came from shipwrecks off the Delaware and Florida coasts.
When: Currently open every day except Wednesdays, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
