The lake house

Douglas Hertsenberg of Bernardon, along with Dewson Construction and Ted Pearson Interior Design, helped give the homeowners of this beach house in Silver Lake exactly what they wanted: a striking, environmentally-sensitive house that would coexist peacefully with the lake and provide plenty of room to entertain and host visiting family and friends. Construction details include 16-inch beams, impact resistant glass and terraced floodwalls to withstand Atlantic storms. A Capiz shell moon fixture illuminates the front hall, and Moravian star pendants are suspended from a windowed great room cupola. The kitchen cabinets and sink areas are almost mirror images, with a bar tucked into an adjacent semicircular space.

Bethany Beach retreat

SEA Studio Architects designed this home for a large family in Bethany Beach. The interior and exterior spaces are large, open and bright. The home is garnished with a blend of clean angular finishes and traditional touches, and plenty of views of the ocean. (Other contributors: Hugh H. Hickman And Sons Builders; Jodi Macklin Interior Design; Halkin Mason Photography)
