5 Fun Things to Do This Week: June 5–11, 2018

School is winding down and summer is cranking up. It’s time to get out and enjoy the season!

1. DOG DAYS OF SUMMER

Thursday, June 7, at 5:30 p.m.

If you want to be sure you are barking up the right tree when it comes to understanding your dog, wag it on over to Riverfront Pets on the Wilmington Riverfront Thursday evening. There, you can pick the brain of an experienced trainer and find out what makes Fido tick. The Delaware Humane Association will also be on site with adoptable dogs. Sounds like a fetching idea.

2. QUEEN FOR A NIGHT

Thursdays, all summer long

Hop aboard the Riverboat Queen for a sunset dinner cruise and leave the rat race in your wake. First enjoy a barbecue buffet dockside, then set sail at 6:30 p.m. for a jaunt down the Christina River. Cocktails are available. (Adults, $45; children ages 3–13, $22.50; kids under 3, free.)

3. BRING THE NOISE

Friday, June 8–Saturday, June 9

Join 3,500 other Americana aficionados for David Bromberg’s Big Noise music in Wilmington. Get up close and personal with popular acts such as Los Lobos and Amy Helm (daughter of Levon Helm). Wilmington’s Rolling Revolution will be selling food, and beverages will also be available in the Beer Garden and Grove areas. We’re especially looking forward to the performance of Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk on Friday—and, of course, hearing the big man himself, our very own “godfather of Americana.” Friday night’s kickoff concert will be held at Constitution Yards Beer Garden (308 Justison St.), while Saturday’s festivities take place at Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park. (Read our interview with the festival’s founder, David Bromberg, here.)
