5 Reasons to Go to the Philadelphia Flower Show

Rachel Ray, Andy Warhol and a GNO make the Flower Show a welcome distraction from the winter blahs.

If muddy potholes, salt-stained cars and blistering cold isn’t enough to get you out of the house and over to the Pennsylvania Convention Center for the Philadelphia Flower show, then here are five more reasons that will knock your pansies off:

1. Miracles happen. Well, at least we consider forcing 30-foot trees to bloom weeks before spring arrives a miracle. Especially after the winter of the Polar Vortex invaded our daily lives. Take a listen to Stony Bank Nurseries founder Jack Blandy as he discusses the refrigeration and greenhouse process.

2. Rachel Ray will be there. 6abc’s Melissa Magee will interview the food darling of daytime television and bestselling cookbook author on Friday, March 7 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Get more details about Rachel Ray’s visit here.

3. Andy Warhol will be there (in spirit, not for real. That would be miraculous). In a special exhibit called ARTiculture, floral and garden designers fuse art and horticulture and transform the 10-acre convention center into a living, breathing canvas. Regional museums involved include the Brandywine River Museum, the Wayne Art Center, the Penn Museum and more.

4. Massages, blowouts and wine on GNO. Grab a friend and enjoy a night of pampering in the city. Think massages, facials, blowouts, locally made jewelry and wine. It’s one of the many additional events this year. Others include: Wedding Wednesday, the Make and Take room, The Butterfly Experience and more.

5. It’s a 24/7 experience. Social media nerds can enjoy the social stream provided by organizers that can help super-users enhance their Flower Show experience.  Follow #FlowerShow and discover trivia, photos and connect with new friends.
