7 Spooktacular Events by the Sea

Get in the Halloween spirit at the Delaware beaches.

 

Delaware’s coastline is known for its sun, surf, sand and… zombies? Yes, even the undead won’t want to miss these spooky Sussex County events this Halloween season.

Boo-B-Que Barbecue and Brews Festival

Oct. 19-20

Held on the south side of the Delaware Seashore State Park campground, this event includes a pro barbecue competition and trick-or-treating on Friday, and a Saturday festival held from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Festival activities feature a corn hole tournament, a festive arts-and-crafts area managed by the Dewey Arts Collaboration, live music and a beer garden featuring local breweries.

Tickets that include 20 barbecue samplings are $20 per person in advance and $25 at the door. General admission tickets without samplings are $10; children 14 and under receive free admission.

Milton Zombie Fest

Oct. 20

Upwards of 3,500 people are expected to descend on downtown Milton for the fourth annual event, which kicks off at noon and ends at 10 p.m. Eight food trucks will be on site in addition to live music, a beer tent, makeup stations by the Delaware Learning Institute of Technology and vendors such as Delmarva Historic Haunts.

The zombies take to the streets for a walk at 8 p.m., and there will be an evening laser show. Proceeds benefit The Calliope Project, the Milton Historical Society, the Milton Fire Department and Casa San Francisco. Tickets are $10, admission is free for children 12 and under.

Rocky Horror Picture Show

Oct. 20

Complete with a live shadow cast, the famous flick will cap the Zombie Fest in the Milton Theatre, starting at 9 p.m.

Full bar and light food options will be available. Minors under the age of 18 must attend with a parent or legal guardian. Tickets are $5-$10, doors open at 8 p.m.

Sea Witch Festival

Oct. 26-28

Now in its 30th year, this signature Sussex County festival includes a costume parade, dog parade, trick-or-treat, beach games, a 5K race, live entertainment in the bandstand, bonfire, movies, spooky tours and more. 

The Fiddlers’ Festival is at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center on Saturday, Oct. 27, beginning at 2 p.m.

Wags, Witches and Warlocks

Oct. 27

Bring your favorite furry friend to downtown Bethany Beach to help raise money for the Brandywine Valley SPCA in Georgetown. The event includes costume contests, pumpkin painting and face-painting.

Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the parade begins at 10 a.m.

Boos, Brews and Booze at the Historical Lewes Society

Oct. 27

The Lewes Historical Society will kick off this event at 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. at various locations for spine-chilling tours of historic haunted sites and sips of local brews, wines and spirits. Tickets are $60, and only those 21 and up will be allowed to attend.

Big Oyster Brewery Mischief Night

Oct. 30

Put on your costume and head over to Big Oyster Brewery in Lewes from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. to try Mischief, a stout created just for the event. There will be appetizers, desserts and music by DJ Woody B. A tarot card reader will also be on hand.
