8 Ways to Celebrate Easter at the Beach

From egg hunts to spring festivities, here’s how to spend the holiday weekend on Delaware’s coast.

 

The Delaware beaches are constantly buzzing with great events, and this holiday weekend is no different. Here are some Easter and spring festivities to get egg-cited about.

 

ANNUAL EASTER EVENTS

In Lewes, the annual Great Delaware Kite Festival is always held on Good Friday. The event, now in its 51st year, starts with an Easter egg hunt with 5,000 eggs filled with goodies at 11 a.m. on April 19. Festivities also include an egg toss competition, kite competitions and an appearance from the Easter Bunny.

The Easter Egg Hunt at Lewes Canalfront Park is Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to noon. The rain-or-shine event will also feature face-painting, a balloon artist, Easter Bunny photo opportunities and music. The cost is $5 per child or $10 for a family with two or more kids. Proceeds from the event support Lewes Canalfront Park.

The Dewey Beach Egg Scoop, organized by the Dewey Business Partnership, starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday. No registration is required. There will also be a DJ, photos with the Easter Bunny and carnival-style games.

RUN, RABBIT, RUN

In the southern beaches, the Bunny Palooza Run/Walk will take place Saturday at 8 a.m. for the 5K and 9 a.m. for the 10K. The race starts at Parkwood Street and Atlantic Avenue and finishes at the Bethany Beach Boardwalk Bandstand. Stick around for the post-race party with music, games and more.

BLOOMS & BUDS

Peninsula Art Gallery in Lewes has curated an arrangement of floral-inspired art for its Spring Mix show, which runs until April 30. The juried exhibition features 19 artists’ still life and landscape paintings. The gallery is near Harvest Tide Steakhouse and The Pig & Publican if you want to grab a bite before or after.

On Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Lavender Fields in Milton will hold its Spring Fling. Bring your own lunch to enjoy at tables scattered throughout the scenic farm, walk the labyrinth or meditate in the Zen garden. Be sure to stop in the cottage store, which sells baked goods, soap, scrubs and lotions, as well as herbs, jams and jellies.
