What’s in a Name?
In a move to convert rental properties for UD students into owner-occupied properties, the city of Newark has instituted a special loan program that encourages folks to buy a home that is currently used as a rental and then give up the rental permits for that property. The program is called Promoting Owner-Occupancy of Homes or POOH, for short. Really?
A few years back, the folks at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington added a section of wider seats to its grandstand, which hosts a Monster Truck show and a demolition derby, among other events. Now, Dover International Speedway has announced a multi-year, seat-widening plan for the speedway’s grandstands. Eventually, all of the track’s seats will have been widened from 18 inches to 22 inches. What does this say about fans of motor sports? I’m not sure, but it gives new meaning to the term “Monster Mile.”
More Than Hot Wings and Beer?
Driving down U.S. 13 south of Wilmington one evening, I looked over at the Hooters restaurant only to be shocked by what I saw. A few of the lights that illuminate the letters on that famous orange sign had gone out. Unfortunately, the darkened letters were the second O, the T and the E. No, I didn’t get a photo. No, I’m not capable of making this up. And yes, I know that’s not the way you spell it.
