Nadia, Christina, and Eve from Illinois:

“This is what me and my husband do for fun—we go to music festivals,” Christina says. “And since Eve was graduating high school this year, we thought this would be a good present. “We’re going to need to have an adult relationship eventually, and this will be a good test. So they had to promise to be responsible, even when their parents aren’t being responsible … and not take drunk photos of their parents doing stupid things.”

John McDonald, 71, from West Berlin, NJ:

“I’ve been to all six Firefly Festivals so far. I’m a big Killers fan. [The younger people at Firefly] are very accepting—they show a lot of respect. As long as you have a passion for music here, they’ll love you.

Kim and Elle Rose (11 months old) from North Carolina:

“She used to listen to The Shins when she was in my belly, so that’s who we’re going in to see today,” Kim says. “I went to Okeechobee Festival when I was pregnant with her, and she was pounding on my belly when we were listening to the Avett Brothers, too.”

 Ethan, 26, from Brooklyn:

“The parasol is from Amazon; a friend made the necklace. That’s the great thing about Brooklyn—there’s a [ton] of artists there. This is my first Firefly, but I’ve heard good things about it.”
