Basha Silverman’s first job was as a child model on billboards for her parents’ shop, Closic’s Baby Furniture. Now, as CEO of Jewish Family Services of Delaware, she is fulfilling JFS’ mission “to strengthen individuals and families of all ages and faiths with counseling and support services.”
Silverman landed her first job in nonprofit administration at 21 with “chutzpah and a passion for social justice,” she says. “With very little political savvy I inserted myself in discussions, volunteered on community coalitions and expressed my opinion about what must be done differently to change our world,” she says. Silverman encourages women to pursue whatever field they are interested in and to find success by “remaining true to yourself while supporting others on their journey.”
