After May 15, Justison Landing Park will never be the same.
That’s the day legendary guitarist (and Wilmington resident) David Bromberg brings to the streets “Big Noise in the Neighborhood,” a concert featuring Bromberg, John Hiatt, Jorma Kaukonen, Angel Band, Railroad Earth and bluegrass legend Sam Bush. The players will jam a day-long festival at the Riverwalk at Justison Landing Park in Wilmington. Proceeds benefit the Light Up the Queen Foundation.
It’s hard to calculate what this event would normally cost—that is, if you figured out how much you’d pay for each act, then added it all up. One thing’s for sure: It would be a heck of a lot more than this paltry $32 price tag. And, $2 of every ticket will be donated to Haitian earthquake relief efforts. Bromberg says that the musicians, all friends of his, believe in the cause. The Light Up the Queen Foundation is dedicated to bringing back to life the Queen Theater in Wilmington. Foundation chief Bill Taylor says he expects the Queen to open in about a year. When he appeared on The Weekend Buzz on WDEL, he said he was setting the bar high. “This isn’t just a great show,” he says. “The festival is a celebration of the rebirth of a great city.”
There’s food and drink, too. Local vendors will include Dogfish Head and Twin Lake breweries, Wente Vineyards, Harry’s Seafood Grill, Orillas Tapas Bar & Restaurant and Fat Rick’s BBQ. (Ah, Rick. How we’ve missed you.) There also will be a children’s tent pumped with fun stuff from the Delaware Children’s Museum.
