If you’re trying to escape the hustle and bustle of the Delaware beach towns or find an inexpensive stay in Southern Delaware, look no further than Millsboro.
The quaint town has a rural feel and plenty of farmland. With a slow but steady population growth in recent decades, the up-and-coming hotspot boasts plenty of charming businesses and recreational opportunities. Millsboro is only 15 miles from the coast—about 30 minutes by car even with summer traffic. In other words, it’s easy to spend several hours at the beach, then return to town to enjoy a meal, go antique shopping and visit the local museums and gardens.
For prospective day-trippers to Millsboro, there’s plenty to do right in town or a short drive away. Take a look at our guide, then plan your own ideal trip.

10 a.m. – Learn about Nanticoke history at the Nanticoke Indian Museum
The Nanticoke Indian Museum works to educate the public on Native American cultures in rural areas. With exhibits, events, speakers and more, the museum makes it easy for Delawareans to connect with the culture and history of those who came before us. We recommend visiting during the annual Powwow on September 7-8 to enjoy traditional song and dance, shop Nanticoke artisan goods and immerse yourself in the vibrant culture. If you’re in town any other time of year, stop by the museum for a small taste of what the Powwow has to offer.
