The DBCC Shining Light Awards on May 28 will recognize those who have made a significant contribution to the advancements made toward ending breast cancer in the Greater Delaware region and who have served to motivate and inspire others to be champions of the cause. Held at the University of Delaware College of Health Sciences Building in Newark—the former Chrysler site—the STAR campus presents a unique opportunity to integrate academics with business and community support. The location advances the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s mission to encourage health and cancer research and to engage public and private partners. The STAR Campus is an appropriate backdrop for DBCC to recognize community leadership, support, and progress toward ending breast cancer. The event will serve to recognize philanthropic support and leadership to DBCC and breast cancer from members of the greater Delaware community. Categories include Spotlight on Philanthropy, which will be presented to an individual or family with a proven record of exceptional philanthropic generosity, demonstrated leadership skills in volunteer fundraising in the community, and a commitment to encourage, motivate and inspire others to take leadership roles in philanthropy on behalf of the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. Spotlight on Survivorship will be presented to an individual who has contributed many years of service to the community of survivors in Delaware, has provided motivation
through personal generosity, and offered inspiration to others by contributing time and energy to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. Spotlight on Healthcare Delivery (individual) is presented to the individual who has a proven track record in improving healthcare outcomes and delivering the highest quality healthcare service to those diagnosed with breast cancer in Delaware. Spotlight on Healthcare Delivery (company) will be presented to a company whose fundamental investigations have provided techniques, information, or concepts contributing to the elimination of major causes of breast cancer and whose research has advanced the prevention, diagnosis and/or treatment of breast cancer. That’s just the beginning of the awards. Other individual will also be honored. The evening will include a stand-up style cocktail reception. Food will be provided by Moro-Satsuma. 778-1102 ext. 10, debreastcancer.com
