Going to the Big Dance
Big news in ballet: Dancer Aynsley Inglis of Wilmington has been invited to the International Dance Council in Paris, the worldwide umbrella organization for all forms of dance and the only one recognized by UNESCO. She next will attend the 37th World Dance Congress in Athens, Greece, July 2-6, the largest gathering of dance specialists in the world, to make a presentation about the importance of dance and the arts. “I’m honored to be given the opportunity to represent the Delaware arts community on a global level,” Inglis says. “The dance training available in Delaware is of a world-class level, and now I have been offered a platform to share that with the international dance community.” Inglis has addressed the Wilmington Rotary Club and her Alma Matter, Ursuline Academy, on the topic of dance and the arts, but never an international audience. Born and raised in Wilmington, Inglis graduated from Ursuline Academy in 2005 as an AP Scholar and member of the National Honor Society and received the Merit Award for Ballet from the National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts. While attending the University of Delaware in 2006, Inglis won first place in Classical and first place in Contemporary in the Philadelphia regionals of the Youth American Grand Prix international ballet competition. She graduated from the University of Delaware in 2009 with a bachelor’s in Russian Language and Literature. In 2010, Inglis was selected to represent Delaware and the United States in the Jackson International Ballet Competition held every four years. Only 25 female ballet dancers ages 18-26 from around the world are invited to compete. As a result of the Jackson competition, Inglis received a contract with the Universal Ballet Company and moved to Seoul, Republic of Korea. For the next two years, Inglis accompanied Universal Ballet on its world tour. She returned to the United States in 2013 to dance with the Tulsa Ballet Company in Oklahoma. In August of 2013, she returned to Korea to compete in the 10th Seoul International Dance Competition where she was awarded the bronze medal. In April, Inglis was awarded the bronze medal in at the annual VKIBC-Contemporary Dance & Choreography Competition. With so many accomplishments, we are sure she will represent Delaware—and ballet—well in Athens. Congratulations, Aynsley.
