Separated at birth. Reunited by chance. Two pairs of identical twins are destined to meet on one very confusing day in the wild and mysterious town of Ephesus, as Delaware Shakespeare Festival presents “The Comedy of Errors,” Shakespeare’s madcap romp of mistaken identity, on stage at Rockwood Park from July 15–31.
This 14th annual summer production by Delaware Shakespeare Festival will feature a 64-foot runway stage, a three-piece band (saxophone, percussion and bass), and original music by composer-sound designer Michael Hahn. DSF producing artistic director David Stradley returns to the director’s chair after appearing onstage in “The Taming of the Shrew” last year. Stradley’s previous directing credits for DSF include “Hamlet” (2014) and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (2012). Michael Hahn is returning for his fourth year of composing original music for the festival. This year’s performance will sound better than ever before, with brand-new wireless microphones for every actor on stage. Bring a chairs or blankets and a picnic basket to the park, though the concession stand will feature picnic-appropriate food from Janssen’s Market, including a selection of fresh-made sandwiches, cheese plates and desserts.
The show will run for 13 performances. Performances scheduled Wednesday to Saturday begin at 7:30 p.m., with gates opening at 6:15 p.m. for pre-show entertainment and picnics. Sunday performances begin at 6 p.m. (with gates opening at 4:45 p.m.). No shows are scheduled for Monday or Tuesday nights, though Tuesday, July 26 is scheduled as a make-up rain date, if needed.
