Dora Cheatham craved an entrepreneurial culture that was missing from her work in the manufacturing industry, so she decided to create her own business, placing her on the front lines of entrepreneurship as a marketer assisting startups and small businesses.
This helped pave her path to the New Castle County Economic Development Council and her new position as its director as of June. Cheatham is also the program manager of the Emerging Enterprise Center, a business incubator within the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce. Her first job was as executive assistant to the general manager of Lalique Ltd. in London.
“I got to meet the likes of Elton John, Freddie Mercury and Luther Vandross,” she says. “[It was] a dream job for someone straight out of college.”
