Independent Resources provides resources and support to improve the health, education and quality of life for persons with disabilities as well as their families. Despina Wilson was hired after the former executive director, Larry Henderson—who was with the organization since its inception in 1994—passed away at the end of 2016.
She credits her primary team of women, Theresa del Tufo, Jackie Reyes and Christy Hennessey, with much of her success with the organization. What many people do not know about Wilson is that she is a talented painter. “I love oil painting in particular,” she says. “As a teenager, I attended high school in Greece and won several awards for my work.”
She rewards herself after a tough day or week with meditation, and makes sure to always make time for her employees. “The best reward that I can offer is to actively listen, pay attention to them and give recognition where and when it’s due,” she says.
