With all the prolonged periods of walking, standing, jumping and high-fiving, the body takes a pounding during a weekend-long music fest. That’s where Jennifer Schmermund and the crew of Dimitra Yoga comes in.
Schmermund will lead outdoor group yoga sessions each morning from The Hub, a food and commerce outpost just outside the festival gates.
“Yoga is a great way to get yourself ironed out before a long day inside the festival,” says Schmermund, who camped out as a festival attendee during its first incarnation. “It can be an overstimulating time, and this is a moment of grounding before all the craziness.”
Led by owner Dimitra Kotanides, the Lewes-based yoga studio has experience imparting downward dog and warrior poses to outdoor crowds. It regularly offers group sessions set in Lewes’ Canalfront Park. For the Firefly crazies? “Probably some heart-opening, body-opening poses to get everybody ready for the day,” Schmermund says. “I think it’ll be exhilarating.”
