The Studebaker Drivers Club will hold its 50th annual international meet June 28-July 5 at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino and Dover International Speedway—its first in Delaware. Also for the first time, the meet will be open to the public. See the cars, the memorabilia, the displays, and the swap meet. More then 600 vehicles, including a large number of military vehicles—rare Studebaker Weasels that were prepared for military service overseas by Dover-based TNJ Murray World Wide Services—will be on display. Members from Norway, Canada, Australia and South Africa will make it a truly international event. “The meet being held in Dover the week of July 4th is a firecracker of an event,” says Denny Foust, head of the meet committee. On Wednesday, cars will venture around Dover International Speedway for a driving tour of the facility—low-speed, of course. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Miss Delaware and her court will be washing Studebakers, with donations benefitting the annual Miss Delaware Pageant. On Thursday, Studebakers will gather outside Dover Downs Hotel for a concourse and judging. “Studebaker fans are passionate people, and it’s those kinds of passions that help make American culture so rich,” says Linda Parkowski, director of the Delaware Tourism Office. The event is expected to draw 2,000 to 3,000 attendees. studebakerdriversclub.com
