If you don’t have time to bake for the holidays, or if you simply want to feast on someone else’s culinary skills, the fifth annual Great Christmas Cookie Walk is for you. By 9 a.m. on Dec. 12, eager customers will be lined up at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Dover to choose from more than 100 varieties of cookies baked by the event’s founders, Lori Speed and Terri Brown, and dozens of volunteers. “It is truly a cooperative effort,” Speed says. “We love doing it.” The freshly baked cookies—from snowballs and shortbreads to oatmeal and chocolate chip—are beautifully displayed on tables in the church hall. To make a selection, shoppers, who come from all over Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, buy empty boxes for $8, $13 or $22 to fill with their favorites. The only requirement is that the boxes must close completely before checking out. Trays are also available for $50 in advance. Proceeds benefit various programs at St. Andrew’s. You don’t want to miss out on this year’s bash. “We may take a break after this year,” Speed says. “We don’t want to stop, but we need a break.” For more information, visit The Great Christmas Cookie Walk on Facebook or call 736-1617.
