Groundbreaking War Documentary to Premiere at Theatre N

See “From War to Wisdom” on Monday, April 3.

“Imagine an entire company of United States Marines, the greatest fighting force on Earth, all dedicated to doing good for the rest of their lives,” says Josh Hisle. “There’s no ceiling on that.”

Hisle, co-director of “From War To Wisdom,” enlisted on Sept. 11, 2001, and served two combat tours in Iraq with legendary Marine Company Fox 2/5. An avid musician known among Marines both for his skill with the guitar and his prowess with the rifle, Hisle was discovered by Neil Young, toured with Stephen Stills, and found that his voice was having a positive impact on veterans throughout the country. In 2009, he approached award-winning local filmmaker Daniel R. Collins with the idea for a war documentary unlike any other—a film that focuses on the potential of veterans to lead the nation forward. “From War To Wisdom” premieres at Theatre N at Nemours on Monday, April 3, at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Six years in the making, “From War to Wisdom” features actual footage of the troops from embedded filmmakers Mike Cerre and Mike Elwell, and gives a firsthand view of the war in all its tragedy and triumph. It examines the realities of combat and its aftermath, the challenges of returning home, and the efforts of these Marines to create grassroots programs to serve their fellow veterans on the home front. A must-see for veterans, their loved ones, and civilians alike, this unforgettable film highlights the potential of our nation’s heroes to channel their gifts to help one another.

“These are stories that aren’t being told,” says director Daniel R. Collins. “This film sheds light on the incredible accomplishments of these Marines since returning home, despite all of the challenges they face. It is an empowering portrait of the warriors who have endured hardships civilians could never imagine and who continue to serve our nation in new and creative ways. In short, no war documentary has told a story quite like this.”

The documentary is being distributed by Vision Films. It was released on DVD and video-on-demand platforms on March 27. Managing director-CEO of Vision Films Lise Romanoff says, “It is an honor to help bring this powerful story about the potential within the men and women who serve our country to the world. We at Vision Films hope that ‘From War to Wisdom’ is able to make a difference to those soldiers looking at an unknown future, and let them know that anything is possible.”
