It is the 50th anniversary of the Broadway production of “Fiddler on the Roof,” one of the most successful musicals ever made. After opening on Broadway on Sept. 22, 1964, its was nominated for 10 Tony Awards and won nine. The Candlelight Theatre will produce “Fiddler on the Roof” Sept. 12-Nov. 2, and its production will be special: Three generations of the same family will play. Gerri Weagraff, who played Golde on tour for two years, will play Golde again. Her her mother will play Yente, her father is The Rabbi, and her daughter will play Frumah Sarah, the ghost who appears in the dream. Weagraff grew up familiar with the story, having attended productions in which her parents had played. When she performed at the Swarthmore Players Club, she played eldest daughter Tzeitel while her mother played Yente and her father played a Russian. But the real story is that, in real life, she ended up marrying the guy who played Motel, who she married every night on stage: Paul Weagraff, director of the Delaware Division of the Arts.
