Independent Bookstore Day is a national one-day party that takes place every April. This year, it falls on Saturday, April 26. Indie bookstores across the country celebrate with in-store parties, online flash sales, giveaways, merchandise releases, and more.
Bookstores around Delaware are celebrating with parties and sales of their own. Here are a few to check out.
The Hockessin Bookshelf
Go to the Hockessin Bookshelf’s Independent Bookstore Day party from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for special discounts, treats, raffles, and special merchandise.

Look forward to a meet-and-greet with both of the store’s mascots—a dog named Hiro and a cat named Huxley (as the cat’s mood allows)—along with two other store cats. Plus, enjoy an author demonstration, tarot reading, free advance copies of new releases, giveaways, and more fun surprises. The day concludes with a $25 acoustic folk performance at 7:30 p.m.
