UD’s Resident Ensemble Players will stage “Hamlet” under Mark Lamos, one of the country’s foremost directors of Shakespeare, Feb. 28-March 17. Considered to be Shakespeare’s greatest play, “Hamlet” follows the young prince of Denmark as he tries to unravel the deceptions spun around his father’s murder, then avenge it. Says REP artistic director Sanford Robbins, “‘Hamlet’ is timeless in its appeal because it has one of literature’s most action-packed, passionate and suspenseful stories, a story that, although simple to understand, has endless levels of depth and complexity as it explores some of the most basic human issues: How do we know for certain what is real? What is right and what is wrong? Is it possible to be good in a world filled with evil? And how do we measure our worth as human beings?” Not only does the audience get Lamos, Robbins says, but it gets a production designed by some of Broadway’s hottest scene and costume designers.
