The Center for the Creative Arts in Yorklyn presents “Landscapes and Birds in Multimedia” by artist Emily A. Reed through Jan. 27 as part of its Corridor 410 Gallery monthly art exhibit. Reed’s exhibit includes landscape photos and paintings, especially scenes from Venice, Italy, as well as photos and paintings of American birds. Reed, of New Castle, is an art photographer and versatile painter who works in oil, watercolor and pastels. Her paintings and photos have won numerous awards, medals and ribbons. Many have been published in newspapers and journals. She also has had innumerable solo and group exhibits during the last decade.
In 2012–2013, in conjunction with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources, her 15-month exhibit “Birds of America,” with nine photos and nine pastels of birds, was hung in five Delaware sites for three months each. These include Brandywine Creek State Park, the Biden Center at Cape Henlopen, Trap Pond, Killen’s Pond and the Department of Natural Resources offices in Dover. Some of these works will be on exhibit at the Corridor 410 Gallery. Reed is a top contributor to the Wilmington News Journal’s photographic panorama feature. Since the feature began in April, 2011, 339 of her panorama photos have been selected to be published in the News Journal.
The Center for Creative Arts has been offering classes in the fine and performing arts for more than 35 years as well as art exhibits, community celebrations, public art projects and the popular Yorklyn Live Open Mic Night. The summer program serves 800 or more children over 10 weeks each year and offers scholarships to children in need.
