May 9, May 15 and May 17 at Tatnall School. A staged version of Peter Brook’s stunning adaptation of Bizet’s Carmen, it stars Audrey Babcock as Carmen, Alok Kumar as Don José, Michael Mayes as Escamillo and Victoria Cannizzo as Micaëla. Maestro Anthony Barrese conducts, and Cynthia du Pont Tobias directs. In “Lakmé”
May 8 and May 16 at the baby grand, Sharon Cheng stars in a concert version of Delibes’ rarely performed masterpiece. The performance features the OperaDelaware Chorus, prepared by Jeffrey Miller, and James Harp of Lyric Opera Baltimore at the piano.
Wine, Women & Food
on May 14 and May 16 features many favorite operatic excerpts related to the theme, all sung by young stars of the operatic world. The performance features “Bon Appétit,” a one-woman opera based on Julia Child’s famous chocolate cake episode. Starring Melissa Kornacki as Julia Child, the 20-minute opera brings to life all the joie de vivre of the original French chef. See it at the OperaDelaware Studio.
