“I believe in the transformative power of education,” Peggy Prevoznik Heins says, “not only for the individual engaged in her education, but for society as a whole. A society in which all members have access to an exceptional education and are invited to the table is a society poised for greatness.”
Heins is president of Serviam Girls Academy, which she founded with a colleague from Ursuline Academy, Meg Kane-Smith. The tuition-free Catholic middle school for underserved girls has extended school days and an extended school year; 98 percent of graduates are enrolled in or have graduated from high school and 80 percent of college-aged graduates are enrolled in college. To unwind, Heins says, “I love to be outside, have a cup of tea or a glass of wine with a friend, cook and bake, and eat!”
