Philadelphia Orchestra Performs Two Concerts at Longwood Gardens

Christian Macelaru conducts Thursday’s concert featuring Nicola Benedetti, and Sarah Hicks conducts Friday’s “The Hills are Alive—Nature and Music” program.

The world-famous Philadelphia Orchestra breaks out of the Kimmell Center and heads for the hills of Chester County July 18-19 with two concerts under the stars at Longwood Gardens. On Thursday Cristian Macelaru conducts the musicians in a program that includes Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto—featuring soloist Nicola Benedetti—and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8. On Friday Sarah Hicks conducts “The Hills are Alive—Nature and Music,” which includes Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music,” Smetana’s Moldau, Strauss’ Voices of Spring, and Mancini’s “Moon River.” (610-388-1000, longwoodgardens.org)
