How to Spend Quality Time With Your Family in Delaware

A majority of Americans are dissatisfied with the amount of quality time spent with loved ones. Here's how to overcome this statistic in Delaware.

According to a study by Mixbook, nearly three in four Americans think their generation spends less quality time with loved ones than previous generations. As the holidays approach, many people will be inviting loved ones into their Delaware homes to celebrate. There’s no better time of year to find new ways to spend quality time together and invite those from other regions to experience Delaware at its best.

Ahead of the holiday season, here are some ways to spend quality time with your family and loved ones in Delaware.

Take Them out to Eat

Going out for brunch or dinner is one of the easiest ways to spend time with those you love. In fact, according to the Mixbook study, over 80% of Americans accept going out to eat as quality time. Luckily, Delaware is home to so many incredible restaurants, and Delaware Today provides many dining guides from ethnic food roundups to outdoor dining guides. Most people enjoy a traditional American meal of turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving. If your family is coming into town a day or two early, consider changing things up with a warm bowl of ramen or one of the First State’s incredible Italian mainstays.

Immerse Yourself in Delaware’s History

Delaware has an incredibly rich history dating back to the colonial era. There are many ways to immerse yourself in history from museums to old estates to historic taverns. The Delaware Museum of Nature and Science is a fun way to spend a few hours for the whole family with interactive exhibits for the kids. Check out our full museum guide for many more options.

Take a Hike

See an Art Exhibit

Delaware always has plenty to offer in the local art scene. This fall, there are two unique must-see art exhibits in Delaware. The Rossettis make their appearance at the Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington through January 28. This sprawling exhibition of paintings, drawings and poetry created by the first family of Pre-Raphaelite art was previously displayed at the Tate Britain. For lovers of American art, Dover’s Biggs Museum of American Art opens a massive Wyeth exhibit on November 2.

Play!

From local arcades to boardgame stores, there are plenty of ways to play that cater to a variety of age groups and activity levels. For example, if your family is particularly active, try a ziplining adventure at Go Ape! Or, for a more diversified experience, Main Event in Christiana offers a ropes course along with bowling, arcade games and more. You can also check out a local game store like Newark’s The Days of Knights to pick out a few unique card games and boardgames to play after Thanksgiving dinner.
