According to a study by Mixbook, nearly three in four Americans think their generation spends less quality time with loved ones than previous generations. As the holidays approach, many people will be inviting loved ones into their Delaware homes to celebrate. There’s no better time of year to find new ways to spend quality time together and invite those from other regions to experience Delaware at its best.
Ahead of the holiday season, here are some ways to spend quality time with your family and loved ones in Delaware.
Take Them out to Eat
Going out for brunch or dinner is one of the easiest ways to spend time with those you love. In fact, according to the Mixbook study, over 80% of Americans accept going out to eat as quality time. Luckily, Delaware is home to so many incredible restaurants, and Delaware Today provides many dining guides from ethnic food roundups to outdoor dining destinations. Most people enjoy a traditional American meal of turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving. If your family is coming into town a day or two early, consider changing things up with a warm bowl of ramen or one of the First State’s incredible Italian mainstays.
When in doubt, you can always check the Delaware Today directory for top-notch restaurants near you.

Immerse Yourself in Delaware’s History
Delaware has an incredibly rich history dating back to the colonial era. There are many ways to immerse yourself in history from museums to old estates to historic taverns. The Hagley Museum is a great one-stop attraction for everything from a grand du Pont home to a gunpowder production mill, industrial history and historic automobiles. The Delaware Museum of Nature and Science is a fun way to spend a few hours for the whole family with interactive exhibits for the kids, including a temporary special exhibit taking a look at the Permian period. See an Art Exhibit
Delaware always has plenty to offer with its local art scene. This fall and winter, the Delaware Art Museum’s “Jazz Age Illustration” exhibit displays pop culture and magazine illustrations from 1919 to 1942. The exhibit features about 120 original artworks as well as a bounty of books and ephemera organized in a dozen themes, including entertainment, gender, race and youth culture. DelArt’s trove of original magazine cover illustrations, the core of the museum’s collection, sprawls over a wall of its own.
Play!Â
From local arcades to board game stores, there are plenty of ways to play that cater to a variety of age groups and activity levels. For example, if your family is particularly active, try a ziplining adventure at Go Ape! Or, for a more diversified experience, Main Event in Christiana offers a ropes course along with bowling, arcade games and more. You can also check out a local game store like Newark’s The Days of Knights to pick out a few unique card and board games to play after Thanksgiving dinner. Find plenty more arcade experiences, indoor go-karting and fun to-dos in Delaware Today‘s rainy day guide.
