Re-use, Re-use, Re-use—And Party
From May 17-July 20, the Biggs Museum of American Art in Dover will present a series of educational programs designed to illustrate the importance of recycling as well as recycling in art. The Child HELP Foundation Gallery will be transformed into the R3 Factory, allowing visitors to participate in hands-on activities using recycled materials and to view, help create and vote on recycling-themed art installations provided by four local artists. The winning installation will be featured on the Biggs Museum website and Facebook page and featured in the next issue of the museum’s Museletter. The four artists are: Jennifer Boland, art educator at Campus Community School; Lori Crawford, professor at Delaware State University; Heidi Lowe, professional jewelry artist; and Mary Pauer, 2014 Delaware Division of the Arts Established Literary Fellow. On June 7, there will also be a screening of “Waste Land,” an award-winning documentary depicting renowned artist Vik Muniz and his artistic inspiration after his visit to the world’s largest landfill. The Biggs will use recycled materials to produce all centerpieces for its annual gala, An Affair with the Arts. By the way, it takes place May 10. Be there. The first two panels of the “Hanging at the Biggs” tile project will be installed for view for the first time. The panels consist of 140 acrylic tiles purchased by the public that feature a variety of images, from artwork to photographs to children’s art to quotations and more. They will hang in the new sculpture atrium at the entrance of the museum. Abbott’s Grill of Milford will provide the food. Dogfish Head Brewery, Fordham Brewery and Old Dominion, Mispillion River Brewing and 16 Mile Brewing will provide beer. And there’s much, much more. Don’t miss it. 674-2111, biggsmuseum.org
