Sassy Chic is Bringing its Upcycled Beach Decor and Art to Rehoboth

Mary Alice Chase of Purposefully Recycled is teaming up with the shop’s owner to open a second location on May 11.

When most people take a walk on the Delaware beaches, they’re often mesmerized by the serene scenery and landscape. But Mary Alice Chase of Rehoboth Beach isn’t one to be distracted by the waves or wildlife. On her daily strolls along the coast she keeps a careful eye on the sand—and her vigilance is often rewarded.

Chase has a knack for turning beach finds into home decor and artwork. She has used sea glass fragments to create hangable sailing scene, and she has turned bottle caps into crabs for table inlays.

Chase’s business, Purposefully Recycled, sells hand-crafted items at Sassy Chic in Lewes. Now Chase and Lynn Misener, the owner of Sassy Chic, are teaming up to open a second Sassy Chic in The Shops at Baltimore Commons in downtown Rehoboth on May 11.

“Lynn and I soon realized that our styles were different yet complemented each other—as did our passion for fun and creativity,” Chase says.

They decided to use the name Sassy Chic for the new store because “it made us both happy, it has been Lynn’s longtime dream, and we got our start at Sassy Chic,” Chase says. The Lewes shop will remain open, and Purposefully Recycled continue to sell there.

In Rehoboth, Misener will offer her unique windows, monogramming, embroidery and upcycled, repurposed collectibles.

Unlike the Sassy Chic in Lewes, Chase and Misener will be the only two vendors in the Rehoboth shop. “There will be some unique giftware,” Chase promises. “It will be an eclectic mix.”
