Sheryl J. Swed

Executive director of Delaware Botanic Gardens.

It’s an exciting time for the Delaware Botanic Gardens, and Sheryl J. Swed is leading the charge. For about a decade, the organization has worked to create a flagship, sustainable, coastal plain botanic garden just outside of Dagsboro.

In its 37 acres, this public garden aims to preserve Delmarva’s native horticulture—and inspire its visitors. Swed says, “I am grateful to have a challenging and demanding role which also enables me to give back to our state and [create] this very special public garden.”

In the fall of 2019, the garden, located on Pepper Creek, will open its gates. Although her role keeps her busy, she finds time to reward herself. “In the summer, I’ll enjoy a relaxing shower in our beautiful outdoor shower. In the winter, I soak in our bathroom Jacuzzi. Pilates also helps me keep a mind-body balance.”
