Jammin’ at Longwood
Longwood Gardens is picturesque any time, but you can’t find a better backdrop for a summer music concert—and concerts are free with the price of admission to the gardens. On August 21 Longwood offers Justin Roberts & the Not Ready for Naptime Trio family. Roberts is known as much for his rock-style children’s songs as his energetic concerts. Audience participation is encouraged and expected. The show starts at 7 p.m.
Shemekia Copeland plays Longwood on August 22. A major force in the blues music industry, Copeland has opened for the Rolling Stones and shared stages with B.B. King and John Mayer. She has a style all her own, but you can’t help but wonder if her talent is partially attributed to great genes. Her father was the late Johnny Clyde Copeland, a Texas blues guitar legend. The show starts at 7:30. The $35 ticket price includes admission to Longwood.

Three Tenors and a Party
Summer is dwindling away, folks. But great times can still be had at the Bethany Beach Bandstand. Hear “A Gala with Three Tenors” on August 22, and Zydeco A-Go-Go on August 23.
Zydeco A-Go-Go rocks Louisiana dance music. And when a band brings Zydeco to the people, people will party. The flamboyant singer, Pete Eshelman, who also displays significant accordion, piano and guitar chops, leads the five-member band. Soulful singer Pamela Eshelman plays a mean rub board, too.

If you’re interested in collecting art but don’t have lots of cash, visit The Station Gallery for the annual “Summer Flip Flop.” The exhibit introduces new artists and features gallery favorites. It’s a good idea to buy the work of young artists. It’s priced lower than established artists, and if artists become famous, the work you buy appreciates.

Down by the Riverfront
Visit downtown Milford for Riverwalk Arts & Jazz August 22 thru September 26. The free outdoor community arts showcase features fine artists and performers who will exhibit and perform. Groups booked for August 22 include the Steely Dan-influenced Pearl Street, country crooner Greg Shupe, and the Cajun group known as Bad JuJu Blues.
August is a nice time to visit historic Milford. While you’re there, check out the farmers market.
