Summer Concert Series Features Philadelphia Orchestra

The Delaware Chamber Music Festival’s 31st season begins June 10.

Delaware Chamber Music Festival’s 31st season is a great way to start your summer with a touch of class. The concert series starts June 10 and features internationally recognized soloists and members of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Under the direction of music director Barbara Govatos, a Delaware native, musicians in the four concerts will perform a variety of works, ranging from Sibelius, Schubert and Grieg, to Gershwin and David Finko. The concerts will be performed at the Music School of Delaware (4101 Washington Ave., Wilmington). Audience members will have a chance to meet the artists at the informal reception held after each concert. Tickets are $22 for adults, $20 for seniors and $10 for students. Admission is free for children 6 and under.

Now in its 31st season, the Delaware Chamber Music Festival seeks to extend and increase interest in classical music in Delaware by bringing to the public top quality chamber music performances at an affordable cost to audiences. Offerings include chamber music concerts plus outreach programs for families and younger audiences, with programming that features innovative mixes of traditional and contemporary classical music, including blues, bluegrass, jazz, klezmer and tango influences. Passionate musicians gather from Delaware, Philadelphia and beyond to bring joyful and skillful interpretations to audiences, along with live program notes from the stage.

The June 10 concert is Four Hands Are Better than Two with Charles Abramovic, and Alexandre Moutouzkine on piano and Barbara Govatos on violin. The program includes Franz Schubert, “Fantasie “in F minor for piano, four hands, D. 940; George Gershwin: “Prelude”s for piano, four hands; George Gershwin, arr. Heifetz: Songs from “Porgy and Bess” for violin and piano; Moritz Moszkowski: Selections from “Spanish Dances” for piano, four hands, Op. 12; Francis Poulenc: Sonata for piano, four hands; Maurice Ravel: “Rapsodie Espagnole” for piano, four hands.
